Commercial Variable Recurring Payments

Collections Hub now live with cVRP wave 1 sectors

The Modulr Collections Hub now runs cVRP in production, as a distinct method alongside Direct Debit and Open Banking, across Wave 1 eligible sectors, including energy and utilities. For energy and utilities, cVRP resolves the core challenge of variable monthly billing by collecting the exact amount owed each month under a single standing consent, with funds checked before collection to remove failures that concentrate at peak billing events.

At Wave 1 launch, bank coverage reaches roughly 75% of UK current accounts, adding a new way for businesses to collect funds. For customers whose banks are cVRP enabled, they can set up a single consent to pay bills or make donations. For businesses considering adding cVRP to their collections, consider starting with new customer onboarding journeys.

Turn supplier payments into a revenue stream

Most travel intermediaries treat supplier payments as a cost. That's leaving interchange income uncaptured.

When you pay suppliers by virtual card, you could be earning revenue on every transaction, through the interchange share built into your card programme. The gap between what you could earn and what you actually earn usually comes down to one thing: supplier coverage – how many of your suppliers you're actually paying by card versus bank transfer. Our latest insight breaks down how interchange works in travel, why most programmes are under-earning, and what a real provider partnership looks like.

Tackling the real cost of FX complexity

If you're paying suppliers in multiple currencies, you're absorbing three layers of FX cost – and probably only tracking one of them.

The conversion spread is visible. But working capital pressure from settlement timing and reconciliation overhead accumulate silently, compounding with every currency you add. At scale, across hundreds of transactions and five or more currencies, it's a material cost that rarely gets quantified.

Our latest insight breaks down where the real cost hides and what removes it. When Modulr FX launches later this quarter, it handles all three cost layers at once – no more settlement timing pressure, no more manual reconciliation, conversion optimised for your business instead of a generic rate.

Morphry Thyme cuts payroll admin from half a day to 15 minutes with Modulr

Norfolk accountancy practice Morphry Thyme grew payroll income 50% in a year using Modulr. They started with Modulr Payroll, a way to add value for clients without ever needing access to their bank accounts. Because Modulr Payroll integrates directly with their BrightPay processing and Xero bookkeeping, they eliminated the manual handoff. Today they process 550 payslips a month (up from 25 at launch) and cut their own admin time from half a day to 15 minutes. They then added Modulr Supplier Payments to their client offering, and one client saw payment admin drop by 95%. The real lesson: your clients' payment flows, whether payroll or supplier, are an opportunity to grow your own revenue. Modulr automates payment admin, so you can focus on the relationship, not the mechanics.
